but the reality is every single time it's because they, and everyone else, are now following 50 and not 5000 people. so you get less deluge, and things get less travel to circles hostile to you.

and instead of identifying those as driving problems in the social media space, we get these pieces, over and over

I honestly think this is like 80% of people's desire to get an invite to the beta, whether they're conscious of it or not:

They want to get in while it's still small, while they can recapture the feeling of using social media when it was mostly about fucking around with your friends instead of depending on the algorithm to either have zero visibility or get pushed to the entire world.

They know, consciously or not, that those specific vibes are time-limited and as soon as they open the platform up for everyone, it will go away. So they need an invite to the beta now, or it will be the same garbage that twitter is now. Because it was designed to be

Relieved it's not just me who had this reaction to that article/headline. I had the same thought about people saying this kind of stuff about Hive.

Now if only people would quit acting like a site is dead in the water if it doesn't bloom to three hundred thousand users from the word go.
