Way back when I was a kid actually the loudest sound in the back yard was the next door neighbor's attic fan, that thing made a heck of a noise!
Speaking as someone with multiple heat pumps, on a street where basically everyone has heat pumps: not even close compared to the drone of the refrigeration units at the retirement home a block away
