thinking about how most places that claim to have moderation end up largely just being places where huge swaths are placed under coercive control, as they usually treat reacting to status quo violence as bad but inflicting it as fine

because there does kinda seem to be a societal trauma response going on in regard to how on/off the switch went earlier toda

but you don't solve that by demolishing the first mistake¹

in reply to @NireBryce's post:

¹ it always kinda saddens me when i see it happen from people who talk about what's often called "systems thinking", and the ways in which punishing failure leads to people just failing even harder because they try to avoid it in ways that make it worse when it does happen.

i can't speak for this time, because I didn't pay attention to the tornado once I saw it forming

but a previous mastodon thing had people who are like, devops speaking circuit talking about blameless postmortems jumping on someone for flubbing a moderation decision (no, before the hachyderm thing)

oh i see i scanned your first comment as two separate clauses, not as "people who talk about both A and B". yeah. Yeah

i definitely feel you with the post, it's the shitty forum-cum-fiefdom tribalism reproducing the vile structure of the outside world again every time it seems
