i don't think people who came later really get how hard being trans was before it wasn't.
how much risk, how much the people who had control over your hrt always tried to find ways to hold it above you. how dangerous the random cis person was.
how much that affected how the community related to each other.
how we couldn't speak in public so we couldn't find each other locally, couldn't organize in a lot of places that didn't already have community.
just old reluctant soldiers in an undeclared culture war fought in the margins, out of sight of cis people.
all of us failing out of our jobs because the managers don't see it.
