in both Battletech/'Mechwarrior and Gundam, there's the phenomenon where as the giants fight, the civilians pick up the salvage as they're fighting.

And I think about that metaphor a lot lately when thinking about the big "AI" push by the current bigcorp giants, putting all actual innovation on hold to fight for market share over the new toy all the attention is on.

Now I am imagining a science fiction where someone stuck on a distant newly inhabited but abandoned planet without a spoon but with interstellar internet is goading two megacorps into visiting their planet over some dumb venture, they just want to have a spoon to eat soup.
