edc YouTube really shows it's class character because all of them complain about the can opener on multi-tools or say how great it is for camping (if you're buying ones without pull tab lids, that's a you choice, because generally they cost nearly the same).
but these days the reason they're left on is, among other things, they're great when you need to drain a solvent can or similar by puncturing vent holes. or opening solvent cans. or lubricant.
you can use it for the giant restaurant supply cans of beans but then you need sterility, just use the rotary can opener that's already there.
i have a black oxide covered Leatherman and I think the two tools that have the most wear on them are the can opener and awl because I'm mostly puncturing metal containers with them
