the thing to ask is not 'haha why is everyone doing this cringe', but 'why are twentysomethings and early-thirtysomethings the only ones who care enough to fight'

There are others, sure, but not that many in the grand scheme. A lot sloughed off and made their lessons suspect when they clung to status quo while we're under attack. It's also why everyone's bootstrapping this, because the people who care from previous organizing-generations are either burnt out, or more often, unwilling to help. After all, it's a small issue in the grand scheme, we're a small minority.

can't shake the grim thought that, like the situation with the poor+elderly in general, a large proportion of the people who need fighting for have simply already died by that point

i hope it's more that people become shittier, less empathetic, and in love with the status quo as they age but that's certainly not the case in all sectors
