thinking about how part of why the US has terrible Internet at high prices is partially because Internet streaming doesn't pay for the load they put on all the providers without paying into.

so really your Netflix subscription is like at least 10$/mo even if you don't have a Netflix subscription. the costs are just diffuse

I am not sure this is true, because Netflix is paying their upstream ISPs and users are paying theirs; hard to know for sure, though, since Netflix’s agreements aren’t public.
