I wish typing indicators in chat apps had different channels. Like, if I'm doing emotes for nonverbal signaling that isn't a reactji, that shouldn't be indistinguishable from writing a response

I wish typing indicators were easy to toggle on or off on a per message basis, defaulting to off. I'd rather they served as a "hang on, I'm working on this thing, not ignoring you" than "I am typing at this very moment". I don't like that the dots disappear when I stop to think, I don't like that if I rewrite my message people are primed to expect a message twice as long as they actually get, and I don't like the way it builds tension for the recipient of the the message. I don't know if many other people share those opinions; my few conversations w/ others on this topic suggest they don't (but that might just be sampling bias)
Edit: I didn't say it ^, but I would also appreciate it if typing indicators carried more context like you described
