why is it that there's some random call of duty game every fucking year like who keeps buying these??????

I think my total exposure to Call of Duty is, I was visiting @earthtopus once and his annoying housemate was playing, with his friends on mic, then the housemate went to do something else and made me play on his behalf for fifteen minutes. I appeared to do about as well as he had been doing.

I'm not, like, ideologically opposed to multiplayer shooters. I put a lot of time into Uncharted and Last of Us multiplayer, and Overwatch. But I don't really need CoD levels of jingoism in my life.

I miss Overwatch tbh, but Overwatch 2 seems to be a bit of a fucking mess. Are there other fun shooters?

the secret is the bigots are still there, but there's live moderators who flit from server to server. every time you join any server you have to hold down a button for 2 seconds to accept the rules policy. after that, if they're flagged three times they get moderator scrutiny and their account is banned.

the ban messages are per region and in US-East you see waves of about 5+ every 5-10 minutes.

free megaman fangame/doom total conversion/arena shooter Mega Man 8-bit Deathmatch is a game i have so much fun with whenever i play it, whether it be the botmatches-plus-boss-fights singleplayer campaign or the occasional poke into the online stuff. it's so much fun to frag people with (and be fragged in turn by) literally every mega man weapon before 11's release

if you can make your own raft of being a sane human enjoying video games for what they are atop the flood of Gamers Online, destiny and overwatch 2 are both good. d2 is decisively an mmo in structure, although the campaign for Witch Queen expac is a great bungie campaign. ow has never been more than vestigial bits around mostly ranked multiplayer for me, and ow2 is the best the multiplayer has ever been. you get to shoot people instead of shields now!

splatoon 3 is def one of the most notable pure shooters around rn though it’s very catered for short matches and blazing fast TTKs. difficult to be competitive in high ranks without motion controls but people do seem to get into them and there’s enough variety to reach up without motion controls at least,

not really shooters, but neon white is a great single player action game with shooting and remnant 2 is a great souls-inspired rpg with shooting also.

Maybe I should give Overwatch another spin, because I really did enjoy it (not that I was ever particularly good at it, but it was easy to have a good time). Blizzard is just such as asshole lol.

everyone is bad. you die fast but it helps to roleplay a soldier by screaming about your leg into a mic until a medic rezzes you and tells you they're duct taping it back on, and then you both die because proximity radio comms are not faction specific.

it's an experience, it gets worse if you try to play it well instead of roleplaying soldiers in movies. but on pub servers only like 10% of people are trying hard and they're outside the zerg, and surfing with the main zerg of your team is pretty chill usually until hostiles take out your building's support columns with RPGs
