in long-form discussion on Cohost there's a phenomenon where everyone sees, like, the first two remarks in a thread, sometimes even the first three, but anything anyone writes past that point gets lost because we all (quite properly) decide to stop flooding each others' timelines with additional replies to the same thing. and then since there's no navigability from original post to quote-reshares, the discussion dies off.
that may be fine! we said "phenomenon" not "problem" because it's a decision about what kind of thing the space is for.
but anyway, what if there were an alternative form of reply, intended specifically for long-form discussions, that authors could opt into when they write the original post, where it winds up behaving more like a mailing list or Discourse thread than a new post? maybe when clicking through to the original post, all downstream long-form-replies would be shown below it, in chronological order. maybe when long-form-replies appear on the timeline they collapse the thread very, very aggressively and you have to click through to the full context to see more?
