Kind of amazing the extent to which there are great papers / books from decades ago about the true nature of programming, and I've never seen a single company acknowledge any of them
I think a lot of it is wishful thinking - companies WANT programmers and programming work to be fungible, because that makes scheduling, budgeting, replacing people, etc. much easier
