I feel like low/no compile times for glue code and even moderately sized libraries really fucked the computer industry because having to wait minutes to hours for code to compile introduced a lot of invisible slack into the system that's now gone. you could only write so much until the physical reality of compilation forced you to fuck off and think about things for awhile, or talk with randos who were also unoccupied.
