it's real! you can find them in western mass and upstate NY at a bunch of diner-y places
Common thing here in Southern Maine - Marcy’s Diner in Portland and Dolphin Marina in Harpswell both do it, to name a few
it’s a thing they did in MA where i worked for awhile and served food to elderly people

I grew up in New England and was wondering what the hell everybody was talking about so thank you for articulating it like that cause yeah, my Bostonian grandma did that for me all the time. I wouldn't call that grilled, but I guess I don't know what else you'd call it. Griddled muffin?
basically anywhere that has the long cooktop without distinct burners will do it if you ask as long as you're buying something else that'll need the grill
