technical debt is kinda a bad word for it, innit?

it's more like corrosion on an active bridge. sometimes it's okay. other times it takes awhile so you can delay if you keep an eye on it. other times you're dropping everything to fix it and even then the bridge might fall before you're donem

but sometimes, some amount is fine.  or at least reasonable all things considered.

old debt is rarely worse than new debt, outside of timelines. it's just debt.

old corrosion you aren't checking to see if it's stable, may be creating more corrosion, compounding every year.

if it's stable it's the same, but one gets across "older slop has more potential to echo problems across the project the longer we leave it"
