posting short things to a real blog feels so risky. this is what they took from us

like I've disabled the ability for people to get email updates from me but what if someone eventually rediscovers rss.

but the emails thing especially on WordPress is such an incredible pattern to keep you Posting Content without even realizing instead of just posting whatever

and all of this is because the big email players (Microsoft, Google, Yahoo lol) ruined email by destroying new features (essentially), and also people Needing To Know When They Get An Email because multiple accounts never had a good user experience in basically anything.

not to mention every company that grew too fast not doing email list security at all so your email has been public for like three decades and no one thinks to get a new one because of the heavy cost of migration (no central way to Change of Address an email if you move providers or even just names)

and because of that switching cost, spam builds up that isn't quite spam, and you can't read anything anyway

everything is connected and all of it sucks

this is why using a service that lets you use your domain for email is a good idea:

you can switch providers without having to switch your address.
