unfortunately reading through it, while he's right that contemporary writing about the internet was/is absurdly utopian, his conclusion reads like he thinks the problem with the internet is that it's not borderless enough and that we need to study secessionists and gated communities to get an idea of what the internet has truly wrought, which I'm not sure I buy

I think that in particular is something that the consciousness of like, the era of post-thirdish-gen smartphones brought (2011 or so), but was a lot harder to see in 2007.
