we had, what, gulf war where everything was on TV through areal views, detached enough that it was called the 'videogame war'

school shootings, which we were told was just an inevitability

schools designed to help cops deal with a shooter, and the alcoves were pretty obviously for that

a terrorist attack, which the media then played the images of over and over for months for profit and ideological reasons

a war, within which combat footage was televised, usually far enough back that you never saw what actually was happening to any of the participants, or the buildings they were in, 24/7 in bars and reception offices and doctor waiting rooms and hospitals and diners and canteens

another war, which the same, but this time it was obviously for false pretenses

the majority of your entire town, every town, turning against the anti war vigils

cops murdering people all the time

cops rioting against peaceful protestors

cops targeting lethal force at them

ICE

just accepting car accidents and pedestrian deaths

fascist street thugs

COVID and the response to it

but no it had to be the games and the movies

So glad u mentioned pedestrian deaths bc every time I talk to people about how often people get hit by cars they're like "well what are we gonna do about that though" and like I don't KNOW, I'm not a city designer I'm just some guy, but I also know every one of my classmates that died walking down the same road shouldn't have died. And now, when people do stuff to fix that I'm surprised. I shouldn't be. I should be surprised that shit happened in the first place. I should be surprised it took like 20 kids dying for anyone to care. Not surprised at all because it's what I grew up with.
