If you can see the "show contact info" dropdown below, I follow you. If you want me to, ask and I'll think about it.

there's a social security scam that's a 722 number instead of 772.

it's pretty convincing until it becomes clear it's a recording aimed at old or intellectually disabled people.

too bad this isn't a website where it's possible to verify a fake or even check if its a typo. the SSA will never send you emails discussing anything, and their website technically has secure messaging but as far as I can tell I can't use it to ask why they haven't completed this step.

its like the whole system's set up to funnel people into scams.

I work as a benefit counselor for a third party administrator and work exclusively with the retired population, can absolutely confirm the validity of this. They’re such a vulnerable group and at this time of year it can be so hard to differentiate mailings, emails, and phone calls from scammers from legitimate companies.

with no way to report scams that weren't direct contact to you, and a system set up to be hard to verify because phone. It's Not Great. Means testing is one thing but I haven't even managed to get to that part yet 😂

Exactly, and when I report to someone that there’s a scam that is trying to either spread misinformation about or maliciously imitate Employer Name Here, it never gets looked into. Just a shrug, especially since most of the folks affected by them can’t recall or didn’t document the phone number, email etc. just an all-around sad situation
