i haven't seen any sources confirm a relation, and the timing is pretty delayed, but his sister has publicly alleged that sam & his brother jack abused and assaulted her as a child (cw: sexual assault, if you look it up)
It seems like it's actually just the robot god cultists didn't think Sam was devout enough, what with all the money-getting
