what's the online equivalent of a barnraising? what can be built that won't require specialist knowledge once it's stood up? does that knowledge need to remain specialist, or is this a tooling issue? why can only the platforms provide that when your demands are small enough for a laptop to be your server these days outside of a ddos if you aren't going for nation-scale?

I think I've mentioned this before, but truly I think it's the ISPs. Dynamic IPs, not enough IPv6, carrier-grade NAT, shitty CPE, pathetic upload, all of these things fuck over reasonable self-hosting. I think if it were more feasible at the (common) network level, we'd see more real tooling to make it simple(r).
