emotional labor is when I have to do anything even mildly inconvenient
“Toll.” They could have said “emotional toll” and I think that would accurately convey what they’re going for.
Optimistic take: they’re correctly seeing our current model of labor as a “pay-to-play” scheme that gates access to basic goods, drains us emotionally, and deprives us of even trivial joys.
Yelling at clouds take: Does no one use a thesaurus anymore?? Is looking up the meaning of a term too much emotional labor these days??
