Silly question, but exactly how bad is the loss of the domain name for an instance, on a scale from "every connected instance has to refederate to the new domain" to "instance is toast due to broken auth/certs/etc."?
i'm not certain but cursory research doesn't turn up much specific other than a general impression that It's Fucked and putting it on a new domain breaks all relations (follows, etc)
As I recall the instance was already getting wound down on account of renewing the domain would be funding the Taliban, but users thought they still had a few months left to migrate to new instances.
I think it might be slightly better now?āanother friend lost their personal domain but Iām still transparently following their new account.
Edit: I was wrong that friend was actually also on queer.af. So I have seen two people I know successfully migrate after the fact, keeping their follows/following. It looks like the old posts are all gone from feeds though.
yeah, and they instance still has the user account emails so they can notify
is it bad I read this in hbomberguy's "sell them to who Ben? Fuckling Aquaman?" voice
