look it's not that I trust google or apple with my data, it's that of all the things on the web, I expect them to be the least likely to leak it and have a security team that's paid a reasonable wage on staff

sure it's a bigger attack surface, but the response time is way faster than your startup with the security team just being the dev who watched the most defcon talks on youtube at 2x speed. it takes a lot for me to trust smaller companies these days. I wish it didn't. But mostly I just wish no one slurped that data in the first place.

I used to do firewall and security development at the old job and I still have rock-solid secure systems and... yeah between endemic cop brain in infosec and general state of IT I wouldn't want to be doing infosec professionally these days and there are very few people I trust who would or do

And this is why I don't expect to buy phones from anyone other than them in the foreseeable future โ€” no one else is that on top of security risks for that long on any given phone.

It's irritating! But no one else is interested in patching zero-days for โ‰ฅ5 years on a smartphone, soโ€”
