and wonder if we're (that is, the people i see on the posting sites) all that's left of the people who haven't succumbed to discord, telegram, etc.
and wondering if it's signaling an instant messaging renaissance yet again prompted by the twilight before a looming recession when everyone's getting unemployed
Not sure, many of the popular posting sites kinda act as both messaging and social media, but discord is the only messaging trying also to act as social media (and failing)
the distinction is more live and high volume vs asynchronous and first-class shareability, imo
and if we expand the filter a bit to "social networks", discord resembles that a lot in the worst of ways with friend group servers, but bc everyone has a different slice of friends you're inevitably in 3 with 80% of everyone else, if your friends decided on discord
Exactly yeah
People on my Twitter going to discord servers, all making their own, with no way of interconnecting them.. like, do you expect me to join 15+ discord servers to keep up with a bunch of random people? Idk
