Not gonna lie, I'd join one if they'd pay me enough. It would have to be one of the less-shitty ones, but yeah, I have a price. Would they pay the price for me? Probably not, but if you offer me $200k to sit around and invent shit to lobby Congress over, yeah I'm gonna do it.

Not that I'm probably ever gonna get to leave academia. I tripped ass-backwards into this job, and I'll have to trip ass-backwards out of it to improve on it because there's no way I'm consciously good enough at interviewing and resumes to move up a this point.
those aren't the skills that matter, it might take a bit of resume tetris but like, most places are more willing than you think and lower quals than you think
