oh god I used to watch America's Test Kitchen. They've always been obsessive about process and organization IIRC. I don't know if I'm retroactively disgusted though. Most things they made seemed to be "american" dishes, though I think there was a good deal of bastardization involved. I think they might have cracked the code on french fries though.

i think its chaotic neutral. like. they're trying but they're also like, i have no idea how to describe it. the words slide off my brain. they look hyperreal or cg or something due to makeup plus hd plus smoothing plus other things that just makes the whole thing feel... wrong, in an almost threatening way, perceptually.
It does have a plasticky(?) vibe now that you mention it, but I also feel like it's probably just a really neurotic production
