what if you had a trackball that had a sphere in the middle, suspended in an oil or something, and driven by magnets such that you could apply like, dynamic inertia or resistance to the trackball, or like pedal assist on an ebike where it magnifies your input by 380% or whatever.
you can do this with mouse acceleration stuff but this would be mouse acceleration with feedback
this would be so much cooler than the "haptic" trackballs they had back in the y2k era that had vibration motors in them.
i saw gravis' post and i was like... 'no spin??? NO SPIN?????' so thats where i stand on this. ALL SPIN.
It does look like somebody did experiment with making a thing like this a few years back.
The downside is they were experimenting with it to help with dropping bombs so it's evil. :(

resistance and/or return to center sounds like it would be handy for a couple of axes of flight-sim controls, maybe 3 if rotation isn't too annoying mechanically/ergonomically
