So Neuralink has an open technical challenge – which is fine – but what they want is comically absurd (1:200 lossless compression of a signal that looks like TV static, that runs very quickly, on an extremely low power chip) and they don't even promise any sort of specific reward for a working solution that only needs to break physics, disregard information theory, and summon six unicorns https://content.neuralink.com/compression-challenge/README.html

This is like that Usenet challenge except you don't even get the promise of 5000 dollars.

The vibes are weirdly as though they'd spent years implanting hardware into monkey brains before thinking, huh, I guess we should think about how to maybe get the data out, which feels like the wrong order of operations to me.

honestly I find the comically unpretentious HTML to be a point in their favor of there being someone who’s focused on actual technical things and not just marketing hype, but it seems clear that same person has never had to think about human interactions such as the problem with making incredibly vague promises, of soliciting random code without mentioning anything about the licensing agreement, and the notion “maybe run this by Legal and ask for some boilerplate”
