feels like there's two kinds of writing styles these days, people who type as a representation of them speaking (often write the best pieces} and people who have been convinced they must always be writing to a formal audience at 1950s Harvard Law no matter how good or bad at it they are (oped writers, Business People, Sales Guys, Marketing Gurus, SEO Ninjas, JavaScript YouTubers, substack posters, and people who write 9 paragraph replies on mastodon, etc)

100% agree, though i suspect this may be more representative of people posting in public than all people. i have a few friends who still talk in DMs & chats and stuff with an in-between style.

actually, though, one of them probably just writes with their speech, but with twitch mannerisms. hm.
