theoretically it keeps some turbulent air attached to the skin, allowing the higher speed air to stay 'attached' and laminar for longer across the surface, which reduces drag. but idk how much the hair actually does that in practice.

I have always wondered this. I gotta think they did the science on it, considering they are maximizing aero in every other way, but what if....
last I heard they shave mostly to make medical care easier after scraping 90 meters of pavement as a mass of 50 people, but I also think the UCI mandates they be as twinky as possible.
