While distinct and this is more important, it reminds me of the old days on the Internet with people - usually academics who talk incessantly about how much they love reading - constantly insisting that "you can't relay tone in text." I don't think that I ever responded to someone with "no, enjoyment of books relies on tone in text; you just don't care," but yeah, if nobody understands your intent, then the problem is in conveying intent...
unrelated with this time but once I had someone get angry with me for "misinterpreting" them when they didn't work to make a difference between their parenthetical vocal tone and their "breaking for a comma" vocal tone, while claiming they were perfect at things (very stereotypical behavior for one afflicted with normalcy)
