i have a very low bar for being able to work with someone, in politics or otherwise: I will give you way more than you ask, right up until you lie to my face the second time about what you're up to, and don't even bother to web search to check if it's plausible.
Lying to get things done is how things die, and once it's clear it's happening, it's usually already too late: A chunk of whatever group it is now just. doesn't. trust. you. That leads to a spiral where consensus is just off the table anymore so everyone always feels like they're "losing" their "fights" because faction fights don't have compromise because they're now about power not what anyone actually thinks they're fighting about.
