Wired: Mother's Day is a metaphor for Frankenstein.
Transcript
In 1943, she {Anna Jarvis} began organizing a petition to rescind Mother's Day.[25] However, these efforts were halted when she was placed in the Marshall Square Sanitarium in West Chester, Pennsylvania.[26] People connected with the floral and greeting card industries paid the bills to keep her in the sanitarium.[25]Anna Jarvis, founder of Mother's Day, was disgusted and shocked by what the animating force of capitalism had allowed it to become. But her efforts to un-make it ended in failure, and she was eventually rendered destitute and institutionalized by her own creation.
Can't fucking believe "a conspiracy by Big Flower and Big Greeting Card to safeguard Mother's Day" is a real thing that existed. How does this happen.
