Every so often there's new people saying others' self expression is an accessibility issue for them. must we have this talk yearly?

on some level you (the general 'you') have to just like, understand you can scroll past and aren't the proverbial main protagonist. Everyone has their own thing and their own reasons. You aren't actually entitled to consumption even if it's uncomfortable or unreadable.

I know most people aren't thinking this through but like, there's no targeted posting on here. Seeing random posts of people speaking to their tight knit group of friends doesn't actually mean you need to read it, or that you're even meant to get, like, or understand it. The posts are in your livingroom, but you are in theirs.

hell, even the OP was probably reacting just to their followers. But that it got picked up really says a lot about like, just how much people need to take a good hard look at themselves and their entitlement around the posts in front of them.

i'm glad you said it

i'm really tired of "accessibility" being levied at individuals living their lives online. like its reasonable to call a website targeted at the general public that you might be forced to navigate because you live in a society "ableist" if it fails to be accessible to disabled people. or public infrastructure. the elevators always being out is a genuine instance of ableist in accessibility

what's not reasonable is acting like somebody's post where they are just minding their own business living their own life and using a typing quirk, who probably isn't even aware of your existence because their posts are for their own social circle of friends who they know and trust, is somehow the same thing as the escalators being out. or calling a visual artist who doesn't use alt text because they do not feel like their art can be meaningfully translated to text, or a personal art website that doesn't render well on phones or isn't very navigable for screen readers or whatever. it's just fucking stupid i'm so tired of it i'm tired of people acting like everything on the internet is targeted at them specifically, acting like they are obligated to read every little thing that comes across their dashboard. with my sensory issues around #ffffff literally an enormous amount of content on the internet is physically painful for me to look at but i don't go around calling people able list for using bright white backgrounds on their art
