the thing to understand about (white, US) mainstream campaigns to keep you from using slang is that it's usually because they want an easy way to know who to exclude and as a sort of reverse shibboleth to know where it's polite / impolite to be racist

I'm talking about the "the kids (gen Z) sure do have weird language, don't use it" campaigns, to be clear.

In the United States, that goes back to dictionaries, like somebody unilaterally deciding that we now write "color" instead of "colour," and probably spelling reformists, who really just want to privilege their favorite accent in writing.
