Good news first: an Indigenous trans woman won her discrimination complaint against an Ontario waxing salon after a six-year legal battle that saw many aspects of her life fall apart. She is owed CAD $35,000 plus interest from Jason Carruthers, the owner of the Mad Wax salon, who has stated he will appeal the decision but seemingly has not filed any of the paperwork to do so.

According to the independent Trans Legislation Tracker, 617 anti-trans bills have been under consideration in the U.S. this year on the state and federal levels. 2024 is the fifth consecutive year that the U.S. has broken its own record for total number of anti-trans bills up for consideration.

The Ohio GOP pulled a back-door legislative maneuver to force a bathroom bill through the state House by stapling it to an unrelated education bill at the eleventh hour. Because that bill was already approved by the state Senate, the text of the bathroom bill will effectively bypass the Senate committee process when lawmakers return from summer recess.

A new study of U.S. insurance claims from 2019 indicates that when gender-affirming surgeries are performed on minors, it is almost always for cis kids. Nearly all of the recorded claims involved chest reduction surgeries for cis boys, researchers found. That, of course, did nothing to dissuade the Texas Supreme Court from upholding the state's ban on gender-affirming care for trans youth.
