The fact that the crappy fiction version of "what if we did clickbait and gamification, but for happy stories" has succeeded for decades is actually funnier than their name, but that may be because I remember the book series by the same title being everywhere for many years...

Assumedly the thinking goes something like this:

  • Many companies, especially in the media space, get fucked over by VC ghouls
  • Some of these companies are basically functional, and by capitalising on brand recognition and economy of scale could be rescued
  • Buying a bunch of these companies sight unseen, as a gambit, is a worthwhile gamble

It didn't work out, but I feel like it easily could've.

we've got four types of businesses here:

  1. basically abandoned by the state and cities during the rise to online (and destruction of infrastructure post-2008), that are now dying unless the community came out to keep them afloat
  2. arms manufactury
  3. venture and private-equity investing
  4. ladies in their 40s and 50s buying 10-cent soap from china, adding fragrances, and charging 70 dollars for it as a craft good

this hits the last 2 and at this point honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Chicken Soup for the Soul manufactured clusterbombs or something

anagram time:

The Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment Company Worldwide Headquarters, initially located in a cliffside residence in Cos Cob, Connecticut, are seasonally gardened by experts in residential landscaping.
