Looking at this job listing of being a nude model for a university and it... asks for a cover letter?? Like why does that need a cover letter and what do you even put in that like "Thank you for taking the time for reviewing my cover letter and resume. I have 30 years experience of being naked"

i know this is a joke but as someone who did nude modeling for a university briefly it's actually really difficult and you need a lot of physicality to be able to do it in a way that is helpful for artists using you for reference. i'm not sure what you'd put on a cover letter (probably your modeling experience in further detail and why you want to work for that uni in particular?) but like a resume is in fact warranted a lot of the time. maybe not for drink and draw casual stuff. but for a university it's like any other position.

(if you've tried sitting naked while holding the exact same position for 6 hours -- or even 10 to 20 minutes (more standard for a modeling position) then get back to me)

Oh yeah I'm under no impression that it's an easy job at all, because having to hold a pose for like 10 mins is pretty strenuous, let alone hours on end.

A resume for this job is a given because its a job lol, and even a letter of rec I can understand, but idea that the job listing asks for a cover letter, the fact that you have to appeal for a few paragraphs as to why they should consider you for the job and why you're invested in this position of being nude for hours seems pretty wild. It's not even a full time position with benefits or an internship, like, they're only asking for a few hours of class time and it's for a semester only, so why a cover letter?

ah, I see your point here re: gatekeeping. people took it in a different direction in the replies, as if the concept of nude modeling as a professional job was a joke, and it bothered me.
