In the last video I just put out, I mentioned I wanted to expand what I was doing with the channel. Well here is one of those things!

I'm going to be writing small blog-post-like articles on various things that are too small to make an entire video on. They will likely be about certain things I come across while making videos, but they can be about anything really. I would like to try to put out one article a week! So they may end up on the short side, we'll see what happens.

I've got a lot of articles ready about various things about the Super Mario Bros. level format, since I did a lot of research about it and had to really learn everything about it in order to make the animations in my videos, as well as create the map images.

You can find links to those maps at these various links: Super Mario Bros. | Super Mario Bros. FDS | Super Mario Bros. 2 (I'm working on pages for All Night Nippon: Super Mario Bros. and VS. Super Mario Bros.; the maps exist on my site already though, you'll just have to URL search for them--hint: /annsmb/ and /vssmb/)

An image of 1-1 from Super Mario Bros. I even show the items in the blocks!

In fact that is what this article is going to be about, because I finally finished rewriting the program I made to generate these level maps. The original was a scrapped together mess that was only meant to barely work, and not even perfectly (instead of implementing several things, I just fixed up the output images in Photoshop). In this rewrite, I tried my best to get everything as accurate as I possibly could, including out of order tile objects and objects getting cut off by the screen boundaries.

A glitch level from Super Mario Bros. showing a malformed castle. This toad with blue eyes gets this tiny castle to himself.
