I'm currently thinking about what the web would look like if instead of yeeting packets across the ether, everything was store and forward (mailboxes, almost) on some regular schedule, as with cron

so you'd need to harden your servers on the hour or half hour or five minute etc depending on your users, and have low traffic otherwise

NNTP, BBSes, and I think fidonet often functioned like this. your local node dialed up to a bunch of other nodes late at night when minute rates were cheap, pulled down a digest of the days transactions, then made them available all day to local callers
