let us talk about the complexity instead without everyone flattening it to thought terminating cliches. this isn't Twitter, you can't even pretend to be propagandizing because people following you are already at least to that point if they stay around through that.

don't just strafe the boat.

which means if people don't know yet, just shouting it isn't going to do anything but make it clear you didn't understand the OP very well

edit: the problem isn't the commentary occasionally, it's that it's incessant from a few accounts, as it is on Twitter and mastodon.

instead of just doing this through edits let's clarify here in a new post: I don't care that it happens sometimes. but when every day I deal with 5-10 of these, it's pretty bad! I don't want to block fellow travellers but please learn that not everyone here is an adversary. this isn't Twitter.

its not great when words are put in my mouth implying I mean the opposite of what I'm talking about. the point of the above post isn't that people shouldn't post, it's that I'm asking people to do a little bit more intellectual work when interacting with my posts than implying no one would do [thing you've either not bothered to read or have decided is something else] and then telling me the problem is capitalism as if that isn't the mindset I'm working from.

The problem is, also, that anything I post can get this treatment. so i just post less.

I'm simply asking people to take two minutes and check if, perhaps, that was the point of what you're sharing. because this is getting absurd. If i wanted that I'd simply post on Twitter, where I already know good faith discussion is worthless and my first two posts of any thread have to contain clarifications or I'll be dogpiled by people who aren't bothering to look into the parts they're unsure about.

please, don't be like the people who say "its trump" every time I describe widespread aspects of fascism.

My patience is gone and I'm sharpening my blocks. Is it weed? alcohol? i don't care. you've postered my front door.

youre not wrong but imo this has to be tempered with: new people are happening all the time who really do not know and are starting from the beginning. sometimes these new people are not even young

i have no suggestions about how this should manifest socially, kind stranger. i am simply always wary of the potential for spaces to announce attainment, pull up the ladder, and be doomed to irrelevance once they become insensitive to beginners. i dont think you want here to become insular like that, but insularity is just as often purposeful as it is emergent

e: i also think a lot of people post replies when they should post comments, but i am also trying not to post about posting vOv

sure, though when I'm getting constant shares from the same six people who tack on "it's capitalism" enough that it would hemorrhage all of their followers, I'm pretty sure they aren't reaching new people without T'algorithm. but point taken regardless, I'm just still very tired of people shooting themselves in my foot and acting like I'm an adversary. because, well, of course it's capitalism. we're on a platform that keeps apologizing for it on a company that has a manifesto linked on its company page, I think raising the bar to at least three kilometers below that is maybe worthwhile in the end.

if it wasn't constant (and even more, on mastodon and Twitter) I wouldn't be this preachy. but "it's capitalism" is discussion terminating when that's already the entire point of the things I'm writing. the one was the thing about brain plasticity.

gently saying it has not, so far, worked

I've got a lot more patience for people just making up what I said in the comments, but the thing where my topic is repeated back at me as if that wasn't what they'd get out of it if they didn't just read the first sentence of the post, is pretty exhausting at ten times a day.

i don't want to start blocking fellow travellers over this but maybe I should if it's this bad

nah i know where you're coming from, and you add things I either didn't write or didn't consider. which is what I'm asking of others >.>

its good to keep me thinking about stuff like that, not that it's an obligation, just thankful when it happens.

also how the hell had I not followed you before this lol.

in reply to @NireBryce's post:

i forget to do it a lot but whenever i get a lot of engagement it helps me to step back and remember that some of the people doing this are probably kinda young, and that i was like that too at some point.

though also some people are just Like That and i've made peace with the fact i don't like everything everyone does

yeah, i was initially doing that and then gently explaining didn't work. people being young is fine, people postering my front door with the same thing over and over, not so much. the old ways aren't working, people still keep doing this instead of taking any next steps in terms of thinking about the systems.

I think a lot of the cases can be attributed to intoxication tho, but like.

that said, point taken. I've been agonizing over that this week, and i hate that the underlying problem is their information quality is so low at those first steps (or, rather, the resources are being drown out by other people who don't get it) that they think that can work in the first place, in ways that make gently pointing that out seem like making excuses in their eyes. same story as the other years, and i dunno how to fix that flood. its not even eternal September, it's worse, because those misguided YouTubes stay around even when the authors grow, which is great if people actually watch the other videos but terrible if they're watching similar things instead of same author
