Billionaires sharing a WhatsApp chat group apparently urged New York City Mayor Eric Adams to crack down on Columbia's student encampments. [Archive.is].

Quotes from the article, out of order:

The chat group formed shortly after the Oct. 7 attack, and its activism has stretched beyond New York, touching the highest levels of the Israeli government, the U.S. business world and elite universities. Titled “Israel Current Events,” the chat eventually expanded to about 100 members, the chat log shows. More than a dozen members of the group appear on Forbes’s annual list of billionaires; others work in real estate, finance and communications.

Months before the protests at Columbia this spring, some chat members attended private briefings with former Israeli prime minister Naftali Bennett; Benny Gantz, a member of the Israeli war cabinet; and Israel’s ambassador to the United States, Michael Herzog, according to chat records.

From the start of the chat, members sought guidance and information from officials in the Israeli government.

I'm going to bed.

I've got so many posts I've sent to drafts because while true, they're uncharitable to the person who made me write them

but like. nuance is fine when there isn't the warcrime of the day going on, but after a point you stop being able to talk about there being nuance without it seeming malicious if you're equivocating the two.

that's not the younger folks having less ability to critically read and analyze things. that's them analyzing them pretty well.

by the current statistics it's 21 eyes for an eye

not quite US numbers yet but like. people keep asking for nuance and at what point is the response just "what are you trying to sell me"

this most recent time isn't egregious but I see stuff like this constantly and it's like... what news are you reading? even CNN is reporting on the prison camps worse than Abu Ghraib
