you know, if we all used "LGBT" instead of "QUEER" that's 1-4 bytes saved per instance you write of it, across all the queer posting (especially the intra-group psychological violence) we'd probably save a substantial amount of carbon. I have no other feeling about the words.
wait now I'm thinking about how LGBT is four phonemes and QUEER is only 3 in vocalspace
and i'm wondering if there's a way to map phonemes to bits and if that's been done
we could start encoding pronunciation and speech differently
i wonder which would take up less space in the end, hmm.
I don't know anything at all about audio compression but I have a feeling it will turn out that "Queer", especially if pronounced with the boston accent (Qwe-uh') saves more power than "LGBT" (even pronounced "leg-butt", "lig-b'tee", "L'g B'tee", etc) over audio-based channels, and LGBT saves more over text. Importantly, on OLED screens, capitalizing "LGBT" saves the most, because it turns off the most pixels when adjusting for the bytes saved by not transmitting a fifth letter over the wire. Obviously "QUEER" would come ahead in efficiency if you had a longer post, causing the letters to be on-display longer.
