ok so here's the thing.

"is the united states a meritocracy" is the wrong question, though it's usually phrased as "the US isn't a meritocracy"

but like, it is one. That's clear from the results. The reality of what we live in.

The question you need to (philosophically) ask yourself and others is "Merit, measured by what metric?"

and from there the patterns emerge



i get that these countries have coal power plants. no, yelling at them isn't what solves this.

go yell at developed countries to actually use cleaner power sources. yelling at developing counties saying they can't use the shortcut you did to get to a better standard of living is uh, maybe just a little rooted in racism

especially when you're not yelling at yours to as much.

how is this not clear this far into things argh
