went to the local indie movie theater for a special showing of Metropolis (1927) with a live organ player (he sampled pipe organs and rigged his keyboard himself!) and the movie started 40 minutes late because they were waiting for everyone in the audience to get their snacks and drinks lmao

That sounds fantastic! A few Halloweens ago, I attended a showing of Nosferatu (1922) that was live-scored by a local metal guitarist and it was really cool. Is this a trend? It should be a trend.
They also did a Nosferatu showing a couple of weeks ago with the same organ player! It was fun. But a metal guitarist sounds incredible, it should definitely become a trend
was this at The Logan? they did Nosferatu for halloween a few years back with an organist and a trombone/clarinet/saxophonist; it was superb
It was at The 400! But the event was organized by the Silent Film Society of Chicago

look into your local indie places (honestly, facebook has been the best place to find these kinds of events, they are organized by older people and they are all on facebook lmao)

That's really cool! I once saw Haxan (1922) with a piano player, and it was nice.
Fortunately it wasn't just 40 minutes of silence, the organ player and the representative from the silent film society talked a bit about the movie and the score, so it was a pretty good atmosphere lol
It's just such a cool way to experience these movies! Both true to the original experience and new every time, like all live performance (plus the musicians tend to put their own flavor into things)
