Forgot to post when I finished it, but I read The Marigold by Andrew F. Sullivan and I really enjoyed it!
It was a fast, creepy read. I would say it's cosmic horror but the incomprehensibly powerful and uncaring entity that will barely notice you enough to dismiss your destruction as collateral for its passage through the universe is your landlord.
It's set in the near future and at some points it hit too close to home and my reaction went from "oh no!" to "aw, man..." real fast.
Not the most subtle of stories and at points it came dangerously close to the characters grabbing you by the showers and screaming the themes at you, but it was still entertaining enough it gets a pass
