@NekoRaita asked:

Do you think there's a less capitalist equivalent to "consuming media"?
I just hate to say that I consuming stories that I love, or texts that changes my view of the world...

I'm reading books, essays, articles, posts. I'm watching videos, TV, movies. I'm listening to podcasts and music. I'm playing games.

When talking generally about it and it's not practical to use all the verbs I like to talk about "experiencing art" or "engaging with media".

I think those verbs are also more accurate, especially for things that stay with me. I don't "just" consume a good story the same way I do a cookie and then move on. I'm immersed in it in the moment, I keep thinking back to it afterwards, I relate it to other stories or my experiences or other things I know. It's a much more active process, I think.

But I'm also open to suggestions if anyone uses other words they like better.

Yeah, I thought of this verbs too. But, since I don't hear them often, I just discarted them.
Well, change must start from somewhere, right? :eggbug:

That reminds me of my online classes during the first years of the pandemic. Me and a couple more people got used to saying "seeya" insted of "bye". By the end of the year everyone was typing "seeya" in the end of the classes.

Now I'll go back to engage with the essay I was reading. Thanks for answering!!

I have deliberately done this on the sly (using specific phrases in a group and seeing if they start using them as well) just to see if it works and it's kind of wild that it does
