oh also TIL, while the various legislative efforts to establish permanent DST would avoid the acute health consequences of the switchover, sleep scientists are saying that permanent standard time would be healthier; permanent DST is less aligned with our natural sleep cycles and could still have negative chronic health effects.

Even more simply, the US has done permanent DST in the past and it was so bad they reversed it. Otoh they refuse to even countenance permanent ST, presumably because of the idea businesses make more money

note that the main complaint was kids walking to school in the dark and getting hit by cars. the villain once again is car culture

it's so stupid that we do this, if it makes sense for your organization (business, school, etc) to have a schedule shift because of season then just do that? You can just say "ok starting on Day we're working 10-4 so there's less commuting in the dark"
