we remember once reading an article about a dowsing rod for cops, but it was pitched as a science thing that found drugs
the inside was like nonsensical circuit parts and dead ants glued to it artistically
when informed it didn't work, the cops who spoke to the press insisted that it does and that it's very useful to them day-to-day
the thing is..... all they need is a tool to confirm what they want to hear. it does that. it is working for them.
